The dates and event content may be subject to late changes, so please check this page for updates.
Event: VISITOR CENTRE 20TH ANNIVERSARY
IN SUPPORT OF THE NORTH DEVON HOSPICE
Date: Sat. 24 May
Time: From 12:00 noon
Location: Visitor Centre
50% off admission charges on the day!
The celebration starts at 12 noon at the Visitor Centre. Joss Ackland C.B.E., world-famous actor, will open the celebrations by cutting the ribbon – and the birthday cake and draw the lucky winner of the word competition in the North Devon Journal.
There’ll be a brass band concert, raffle with great prizes, bargain pots of mouth-watering Clovelly strawberries and cream for sale and special offers at the Visitor Centre. And to finish, there’s an evening of exciting live music at the Visitor Centre.
Join in the prize balloon race! Buy one of 400 helium-filled balloons and watch them go into the skies (the one that goes the furthest wins a commemorative Dartington glass prize). There’ll also be a crazy ball race down the cobbles to win £50.
It’s all to raise funds in support of the North Devon Hospice, so do come along to support this worthy cause.
According to our calculations, we expect our 5 millionth visitor to Clovelly around mid May, who will be rewarded by the owner, The Hon. John Rous, with the FREEDOM OF THE VILLAGE for a year.
Event: Lundy Island Gig Race

Clovelly 15:00h
Sunday 13 July, departing Lundy 10:00h
Normal admission charges apply.
An annual gig race from Clovelly around Lundy Island and back. Cornish pilot gigs were designed to carry pilots out to ships inbound to the ports around the South West. The first one alongside got the job, so speed and seaworthiness were critical.
The modern gig is still built to the same specifications. This is not racing in calm estuarine waters, but ocean racing, battling against wave after wave in what is, after all, nothing more than a large rowing boat.
There are only about 140 active gigs in the world. For more information on the gigs, please see www.clovellygig.org
