The New Inn at Clovelly can honestly claim to be unique, for where else can you stay in pampered luxury, with the only 'traffic sounds' being footsteps and the occasional donkeys' hooves on an ancient cobbled street? And where on earth is your luggage brought to the hotel on a sledge?

Starters

Chicken liver pâté - surrounded with cranberry coulis & Melba toast
Deep fried whitebait - accompanied by tartare sauce
Stir-fried mushrooms - laid on a bed of crispy golden bread
Salmon & prawn parcel - served on a bed of mixed leaves
Fillets of lemon sole - accompanied by citrus sauce

Main courses

Sirloin steak - topped with wholegrain mustard and red wine sauce
Poached cod - enhanced with cheese Mornay sauce
Lamb cutlets - served with a mint jus
Pan fried chicken breast - on a pool of mushroom and white wine sauce 

Desserts

Chocolate sponge pudding - surrounded by real Devon custard
Home-made apple and mixed berry crumble - with clotted cream
Raspberry crème brûlée - served with cream and fruit coulis
Ice cream and sorbets - served with a wafer biscuit
Selection of local Devon cheeses with biscuits
